Jewish Comedians gather at Chinese restaurant for new community Christmas event

Bow – What do you call a night of Jewish comedy at Xmas time? And what if it’s at a Chinese Restaurant? The answer: Moo Jew Comedy.
“Listen, Jews have congregated for centuries at Chinese restaurants at Xmas time,” said Jason P. Lorber, Moo Jew Comedy producer and comedian. “Why make them schlep to a comedy show, when we can bring the comedy right to them, in their natural habitat?”
“Boy, could we use a laugh!” said Jeff Fladen, executive director of the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire. “When times get tough, we need to support each other. And a little celebration never hurt anyone. We invite others to join the Jewish Federation at Moo Jew Comedy this year for a great dinner and a hilarious show.”
Lorber named the event Moo Jew Comedy, after deciding against other names, including “Oy of the Beholder,” “Not So Silent Night,” and “So, Jew Want Some Chinese?”
The comedy show features all-star comedians:
• Dan Hirshon (New York City) has won comedy awards at Boston and Las Vegas Comedy Festivals, and has written and produced a comedy album as well as several award-winning short comedy films.
• Jena Friedman (New York City) has opened for Robin Williams, was a finalist in Time Out Chicago’s 2007 Funniest Person Contest, received critical acclaim in the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival.
• Josh Gondelman (Boston) has won awards in the Boston Comedy and Seattle Comedy Festivals, was named “The Chosen One” from a Heeb Magazine comedy competition, and this year completed his first national tour.
• Jason P. Lorber (Burlington, VT) from Sirius Radio, DemocracyFest, WCAX-TV, multiple films, and dozens of TV commercials. Performing Dec. 27 in NH.
Moo Jew Comedy takes place at Chen Yang Li restaurant in Bow, NH. Partial proceeds from the event build a stronger Jewish community through a partnership with the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire (JFNH). Tickets are $49 for a 3-course dinner (vegetarian options available), and “all the comedy you can eat.” Price includes a donation to JFNH, plus the show, the dinner, and tip, which Lorber’s mother calls “such a deal.”
Discernible Jews and gentiles have four nights to choose from, namely Dec. 24-27. There are two seatings – one at 5:30pm and the other at 7:30pm. Lorber urges folks to be “moderately on-time-ish.” The comedy show starts just about the time that dessert is served. Moo Jew tickets/information available at www.MooJew.com or 802-863-5966.
