Gibson's Book Club reads The Best American Short Stories, 2013, edited by Elizabeth Strout
Each year, Houghton Mifflin publishes a collection of the best short stories from the previous year. The 2013 edition, edited by Elizabeth Strout, is now in stock. The month of December is so busy, we're all so distracted, it's a great month to read short stories. We'll be asking book club attendees to be sure to read these four stories, plus as many others as they like: 1) Miss Lora, by Junot Diaz 2) Referential, by Lorrie Moore (Extra credit: read this Nabokov story that "Referential" pays homage to.) 3) The Semplica-Girl Diaries, by George Saunders 4) Train, by Alice Munro This event is free and open to the public, all are welcome, newcomers are encouraged! Our book club is open to all. We've chosen an eclectic, ambitious list of books for the coming year: join us for every meeting, or deal yourself in as the spirit moves you.
We are dedicated to providing accurate event information, however, we advise calling ahead to confirm dates, times, location, and other details.
