June in Jaffrey: Schubert on the Green
On Sunday, June 22 at 4pm Electric Earth Concerts will present what is probably a first: a performance begins in
First Church in Jaffrey Center, and concludes next door in
the Jaffrey Meetinghouse. At intermission the audience will
enjoy refreshments under the trees on the Jaffrey Center
The Horszowski Trio, Jesse Mills, violin; Raman Ramakrishnan, cello and Rieko Aizawa, piano, will perform with bassist Jered Egan, violist Jonathan Bagg, violinist Owen Dalby, and flutist Laura Gilbert. Works will include Schubert’s joyous “Trout” Quintet and Dvorak’s Quintet for strings with double-bass, plus Erwin Schulhoff’s Concertino for flute, viola and bass, and a newly commissioned piano trio by celebrated American composer Eric Moe.
The Horszowksi are Electric Earth’s ensemble-in-residence, and have been the backbone of numerous concerts since the festival’s founding in 2012. This remarkable trio combines powerhouse technique with the highest musical intelligence and refinement, and the results are consistently superb. Whatever music they touch, whether a well-known masterpieces or a fresh discovery, comes alive in their hands with brilliant energy and pizzazz. Hailed by the New
Yorker as a group “destined for great things”, the Horszowski’s burgeoning career includes concerts in important venues around the US as well as internationally.
The concert is part of Electric Earth’s mini-festival, “June in Jaffrey”, which heralds the arrival of summer in an eclectic series of five concerts held over three weeks, June 13 – 29.
