Frost Heaves, the town so small that even Santa can’t find it, brings Holiday Hilarity to the Peterborough Players Theatre on Dec. 13,14, and 15. What began as a local talent show—except they didn’t have any talent—has become a regional phenomenon, a musical comedy variety and what-have-you show that has been described as "hilarious," "brilliant," and "funnier than the time Homer Cratchett’s robe caught fire during the Christmas eve service." The show will feature the best of Christmas comedy from the first five years of Frost Heaves. "We did an exhaustive survey to find out what people liked most," says Fred Marple, unofficial spokesman for the town. "Actually, it was just two guys at the counter of the Blue Bell Diner, but I was exhausted afterwards." The Frost Heaves players will explain why the whole string goes out when one Christmas bulb blows, why the wise men were a little late getting to Bethlehem, and why you get Christmas cards from folks you don’t remember, among other nonsense. The Speed Bumps band will play Christmas favorites as well as writing an original Song on the Spot based on suggestions from the audience. "This is kind of a trick we do, like pulling the tablecloth out from under a complete table setting, only less messy," says Fred Marple. And as always, Fred will present a moving Christmas story. "By the time I’m done, most folks in the audience have moved two or three times," he says. Frost Heaves is family friendly and appropriate for all ages. "As long as you got a pulse, you’ll get at least one or two laughs out of it," says Fred. Performances of Frost Heaves are Friday and Saturday, Dec.13-14 at 7:30 p.m., matinee Sunday Dec. 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Peterborough Players theatre in Peterborough, NH. Tickets are $18, $15 for the matinee, available at the Toadstool and Steeles in Peterborough, Rousseau’s Music in Jaffrey, at the door, online at frostheaves.com or by calling 603-525-3391.
