Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Valentine's Day fun doesn't have to cost a lot of money! You can create your own DIY Valentine's Day celebration!

It is fun and easy to make your own Valentine's Day games for kids! DIY Valentine's Day games are low-cost, and generally only require construction paper, scissors, and some crayons! If you can make a paper heart, you can make your own fun Valentine's Day game!

Here are some easy-to-make, Valentine's Day games your kids are sure to love!

Mend a Broken Heart

Make construction paper hearts. Use pattern scissors, or a patterned cut to halve each paper heart down the center. Hide all of the pieces, then have kids enjoy a scavenger hunt to find the matching halves!

Guess the Valentine
Print out word or picture flash cards with characters from your children's favorite storybooks or movies. Ask kids to guess each character's Valentine (counterpart!) Example: Cinderella's Valentine is Prince Charming.

Sweetheart Scramble
Cutout construction paper hearts. Label each with a scrambled love message (example: mb eeni= be mine). Have kids unscramble each message and write the answer on the hearts.

Love Takes Flight
A fun twist on the classic paper airplane. Fold construction paper hearts lengthwise, then fold down each side to make the wings. Take turns flying planes of various sizes and mark whose flies furthest!

Healthy Heart Activity
Get kids involved in healthy-heart awareness by discussing the different actions they can take to keep their hearts healthy! Cut out a large paper heart, then have kids help fill it with lists or pictures of heart-healthy foods and activities: carrots, running, soccer, apples, etc.

Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you enjoy these games, and feel free to share some of your own DIY Valentine's Day games in the comments section below, or on our Facebook fan page!
