Discovering the coolest place for artists in Nashua
The Picker Building is located at 99 Factory Street (on the right with the large, white 99 on it). This photo is from Daniel Splaine of Test of Time Photography)
On Thursday, I was privileged to visit a place I’d never been to in Nashua and due to the overwhelming impression it left on me, I knew I had to share it with the rest of you.
Have you ever heard of the Picker Building located at 99 Factory Street Extension (not far from Main Street)? I’ll be honest and tell you that it’s probably not a place you’d normally wander in to, but once you do, you’ll be glad you did.
The Picker Building, once a cotton mill along the Nashua River, is now home to dozens of artists’ studios. The building’s four floors are packed with everything creative and beautiful; from photography to stained glass and from jewelry to painting.
I think touring the building took me by surprise because I never even knew it was there. I never knew that something so spectacular and unique was located minutes away from me.
Each floor is home to brilliant and talented artists who love meeting new people and are open to sharing their works of art with visitors. Many have their works for sale and even teach classes.
The artists love to tell stories of their pieces of work and travels but the best part about them is their support and admiration of each other.
The Picker Building is truly a place that you can find just about anything; it’s a Mecca for the artsy and crafty. I personally can’t wait until Christmas rolls around and I’m looking for a unique gift for someone.
Definitely make your way to downtown Nashua to check out the Picker Building but please note that some of the artists don’t have regular business hours so make an appointment or try catching them by chance.
Some of the places I highly recommend for gifts and jewelry are:
- Renaissance Glass (stained glass, lamps and gifts)
- Art Clay Studio (Metal clay and jewelry)
- Bonnie Guercio (mixed media collages)
- River Art Studios (jewelry and lamps)
And if you’re looking for some amazing photographers:
- Test of Time Photography by Daniel J. Splaine
- Ceaser Photography by Sid Ceaser <
