So, the perk to my job is that I get to try things. Some things are great, and others make me a little nervous, but I am a professional (or at least attempt to be) so I get out there and try, try, try away.

My first experience was with Muscular Therapy Solutions in Amherst. Carl Bertolami, the owner and an LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist), has been working his magic on clients for 9 years. Carl is a 30-something man with dark hair, kind eyes, and patience in his voice. He started off our session asking about any medical conditions and/or injuries I had. He then took some time to discuss the therapy. You see, Carl's focus was to spend time fixing what is wrong with me (insert joke here). Our bodies tend to twist and turn and get out of alignment causing all kinds of systemic problems. Carl explained to me that the pain in my shoulder was probably caused by the misalignment of my hips (apparently your hips can lie - someone better let Shakira know).

I spent an hour with Carl in his studio and after our session I left feeling pampered and taken care of. I was very appreciative of his massage for a several reasons. First, Carl took the time to listen to me and find out what I needed out of our session. Second, he took his time and made sure I was emotionally and physically comfortable with everything he was doing. And third, I felt like we had accomplished something. Carl doesn't do "fluffy" massages. He uses a bit more pressure and is looking to smooth your body back to healthy and original state. Needless to say this massage was more intense then any resort spa treatment but I think I got much more than I bargained for in knowledge and ability with Carl.
