Things to Do in NH This Weekend

Friday, June 10, 2011

It is HOT! This week has pushed us much closer to memories of summers past. The humidity isn't helpful. I've caved; my AC is installed.

Luckily, this is New England, and our weather patterns are as fleeting as the wind on which they sail. This weekend should be comfortable, and that's good, because there are plenty of activities to enjoy.

Most enticing is Portsmouth's Market Square Day on Saturday. Spend the afternoon perusing the lovely open market in the beautiful seacoast, then, maybe head to the beach! If you're still in a sand-and-water mood on Sunday, head over to New Castle for the Open House at Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse and tour one of the most beautiful and historic locations on New Hampshire's Seacoast.

Families of all ages can enjoy the 22nd Annual Great Ashuelot River Duck Race in Keene on Saturday; proceeds from the entertaining event benefit a slew of local charities, so everyone wins! Younger kids will definitely enjoy All Aboard for Train Time! at The Children's Museum of NH on Sunday. Lead by a uniformed train conductor kids will explore the world of locomotives, participate in activities, and even make some fun projects to take home!

There are many theatre productions this weekend as well. If you're interested, check out THIS HERE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, an original musical in one act at The Scenic Theater in Pittsfield. $1 of each ticket sold will benefit The National Disaster Fund. Also, the highly acclaimed Bela Fleck and the Original Flecktones will grace The Lebanon Opera House on Monday, June 13th, so plan on checking out some authentic and remarkable banjo music in unique, genre-busting settings.
