Little Green Men Celebrated in NH

Monday, July 25, 2011

You're driving along a dark, windy New Hampshire highway... Suddenly, the radio loses signal, your watch stops and flashing lights whitewash your vision. Next thing you know two hours have elapsed and you are 35 miles away from where you were before.

These were some of the experiences of New Hampshire residents Betty and Barney Hill on NH Rte. 3 near Lincoln 50 years ago.

Whether or not you believe in flying saucers, crop circles or close encounters with little green men... The great state of New Hampshire has officially cast this historical event in stone.

The N.H. Division of Historical Resources has erected a historic plaque marking the event. The plaque was unveiled last Wednesday, July 20th with a special 50th anniversary celebration of the "incident" planned for September 23rd-25th at Indian Head Resort. The "incident" is noted by experts as "the first widely-reported UFO abduction report in the United States."

The plaque sits at The Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, NH near where the encounter took place. The plaque reads:

"On the night of September 19-20, 1961, Portsmouth, N.H., couple Betty and Barney Hill experienced a close encounter with an unidentified flying object and two hours of "lost" time while driving south on Rte 3 near Lincoln. They filed an official Air Force Project Blue Book report of a brightly-lit cigar-shaped craft the next day, but were not public with their story until it was leaked in the Boston Traveler in 1965. This was the first widely-reported UFO abduction report in the United States."

So... do you believe in spacemen and otherworldly encounters??? What do you think of this HISTORICAL marker? Share your opinions, stories (and encounters?) in the Facebook comment section below!
