Unleash your inner pirate! Today be International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

I love pirates, and this year's TLAP Day is all the more special because a friend of mine is having a pirate-themed wedding this Saturday!!! Yo ho ho!

International Pirate Day is unquestionably my favorite random holiday! Last year, in honor of Talk Like A Pirate Day, I put together a quick pirate-words list to have ye on yer merry way to talking like a pirate!

Here is that list again, with some additions in the comments from our fans last year! Feel free to add yer own salts to the convorsation ye scallywags!

International Talk Like A Pirate Day Vocab List

Ahoy - Hello

Arr - Yes/I agree/Awkward silence filler

Avast - Stop and pay attention

Aye - Yes.

Aye Aye - You've got it!

Be - Am/Are

Dubloon - Money (An old Spanish Coin)

Fair Winds - Good Luck

Grog - Alcohol

Lad - Young man

Lass - Young woman

Loot - money, usually stolen

Land Lubber (or just Lubber) - A person who likes being on land (this is an insult)

Marooned - Stranded

Mate / Matey - Friend

Me - My

Plunder - Steal

Sea Dog / Salt / Old Salt - Somebody who has been a sailor for a long time; a professional.

Shiver me timbers - What a surprise

Smartly - Quickly
