Things To Do In NH This Weekend

There is just not enough snow for me this winter! It seems like the coldest days have been the driest, and the warmer days bring rain (or sleet), but no snow!

Luckily, there is snow (manufactured or otherwise) in other parts of the Granite State, and plenty of celebration in it this weekend!

Check out the Winter Extravaganza all weekend in Jackson for some snow-carving fun! Fifteen teams will compete for the NH State Championship with the hopes of moving on to the National Snow-Sculpting Competition at Lake Geneva. This weekend also brings the 5th Annual Vintage Snowmobile Race on Saturday in Libson. This is a great spectator event and you can stay warm with plenty of hot food and drinks available for purchase!

Speaking of warm, yummy, comfort food in the winter! You (and your forks) may want to check out the 3rd Annual Winter Carnival, Chili and Mac & Cheese Tasting on Satuurday in Durham and the Souhegan Valley Chili Chowda Cookoff on Sunday in Amherst!

Lots of great kids events this weekend as well! The Mall at Rockingham Park is hosting the Kidgits Carnival on Saturday with Soda Can Topple Toss, A-Maze-ing Plinko Disk Drop Game, Silly Nilly Dice Roll, Ring Toss 'Em Up, and more!The Radisson Hotel will display some scaly creatures on Sunday at the New England Pet Reptile Expo and Profile Motors is keeping New Hampshire kids safe at the Child Safety Fair on Friday and Saturday in Conway!

Enjoy your weekend and do a little snow dance! Groundhog Day is coming up next week ... I wonder if he has any flurries in mind!

Home cooks will compete against restaurant chefs for the best chili and chowders in several categories. Attendees may taste all & vote for the "People's Choice" awards. Winners receive cash prizes, as well as free entry into next year's cookoff to defend their title! Participants provide 300 2 oz. samples in crock pots or steam tables. Serving products will be provided. Entry fee is $25 for restaurants, $15 for amateurs. The Cookoff benefits Opportunity Networks, a nonprofit that provides meaningful employment and training to adults living with developmental and acquired disabilities.

15 of New England's most talented sculpting teams will be carving up the snow in fine form to create some amazing sculptures. Keeping Kids Safe Project Child Safety Fair

The Keeping Kids Safe Project will be hosting a free child safety fair in Conway, NH on January 27th and 28th to provide children with free fingerprints and photographs. The child safety organization will take a child fingerprints and send them home directly with parents. Parents can use the record to turn directly over to authorities anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. There will also be community organizations present to provide safety information and entertainment for families.
