Local Farm & NH Living Event Returns

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

"New Hampshire's Greatest Winter Fair" returns for its 28th year with another weekend full of demonstrations, games, auctions, and great New Hampshire products.

The NH Farm & Forest Expo will be held at the Radisson Hotel, 700 Elm Street Manchester, on Friday, February 3rd, from 9am-7:30pm and Saturday, February 4th, from 9am-4pm. Individual fair admission is $7 and kids 15 years and under are free!

Attendees can save $1 off of the admission price by brining 2 non-perishable food items to donate to the NH Food Bank. This is a continued initiative from years past, and last year, donations included nearly 300-pounds of non-perishable food items, as well as over $300 in cash benefiting the NH Food Bank in their constant efforts to reduce hunger across the state of New Hampshire.

The NH Farm & Forest expo is a lively event that displays the best aspects of New Hampshire. The activities and vendors provide valuable information about living and eating local.

Saturday's activity roster this year includes a FREE Backyard Maple Sugaring Workshop beginning at 9:15am. The workshop will be presented in the Pierce Room at the Radisson Hotel. This workshop is geared to first-timers and beginners. All aspects of maple sugaring will be covered, including tree identification and tagging, collecting and boiling sap, finishing, filtering, and packing syrup. Equipment and supplies needed, especially
sizing and operating small evaporators (homemade and commercial) will also be discussed.

Also on the 2012 expo schedule: The NH Envirothon, Women in Agriculture, The New Hampshire Farm-to-Restaurant Connection's New "Certified Local" Program, and Chainsaw Operation & Maintenance on Friday. Saturday includes: Equine Challenge, Master Gardner Q & A, Exotic Plants & Wildlife, Farm Poetry & Art - A Historical Appreciation and Growing a Better Beer in the Granite State: From Field to Kettle, among other great activities and information sessions. The Annual Auction will also take place on Saturday at 2pm with great opportunities to purchase New Hampshire products and services, many donated by Expo exhibitors.
