Pre-Football Things To Do In NH This Weekend

So, our little groundhog friend was spooked by his shadow. Looks like we're in for six more weeks of wintry weather. Although, if we're going by the last six weeks, then we may just be in for six weeks of cold and sometimes icy rain!

The top event on many minds this weekend is, of course, the Super Bowl on Sunday. That said, many of this weekend's events just happen to be on Saturday, or on Sunday morning, so you can maximize on your New Hampshire fun!

Well, if we're stuck in the winter, we might as well celebrate! Lots of family fun on the ski slopes this weekend! Also check out winter carnivals and festivals in Amherst, Somersworth, and Newport, not to mention the exciting Vintage Snowmobile Racing in Pittsburg on Saturday! This event was previously scheduled for Colebrook, NH, but has been moved! Bring on the snow!

Winter Carnival at Peabody Mill Environmental Center

Come experience our second annual winter carnival at the Peabody Mill Environmental Center, your local environmental education center. Activities to include maple syrup on snow, our animal in winter demonstration (skins and tracks), story telling, winter dog safety talk and many nature based winter crafts will be held indoors. When we venture outside we'll find activities to include, painting on snow, snowball toss, snow shoe hike sled races, snow sculpture contest , bon fire with s'mores and a Winter Sky Watch. As Canadian waters freeze over, eagles fly south to find open water for fishing. With special guest, Rita Tulloh, participants will search for these awe inspiring birds along the banks of the Merrimack in Manchester. Bring binoculars if possible. Please dress warmly. Ages 10 and up. This program is not wheelchair accessible. Cost: $2 per person or $5 per family. Advance registration with payment required.

Knights of Columbus Youth Free Throw Championship

All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2012 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually with winners progressing through local and state competition. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event and trophies are provided for council champions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in respective age divisions. Participation in this event is free to all competitors. Last year more than 130,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3000 local competitions.

Celebrate 96 years of tradition and winter fun. This year's Newport Winter Carnival will attempt a world record for the most snowmen made in one place. (weather dependent).
