Amherst N.H. - The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and it's about time you start to dust off your golf duffel and get ready for the season. If you are anything like myself, then you're only true golf experience doesn't go beyond a driving range or putt-putt course. However, this year I am determined to move onto the greens!

Thankfully, with help from Amherst Country Club, showing off my swing this season may no longer be a source of great anxiety. The Ponemah Green Family Golf Center, right down the street from the Club, offers a variety of lessons, programs, camps and clinics at any level and all ages. What an ideal situation! If they can instruct a 4 year old how to maneuver a club, surely they can teach me a proper swing!

Before heading to Ponemah, I checked out some background information on my instructor, Lionel Dupuis. He was elected to membership in the PGA of America in 1988 and has conducted numerous clinics for youngsters and adults at various golf facilities for over 25 years. My odds of learning how to swing a club with dignity just quadrupled! Having an experienced and patient instructor would be key.

When I arrived at Ponemah, I met Lionel and explained my lack of any real golf experience. Without hesitation Lionel picked up a couple clubs that would give me the opportunity to see the difference between some standard clubs. We headed out to the driving range where Lionel assessed my level, reassuring me that he has taught every age and level, many with little or no golfing experience, hurray! We started the lesson going over the basics, different types of grips for holding the club, foot placement and stances and then moved on to more complex information about the differences between clubs and the steps of a swing. Not a beginner like myself? No need to worry, the lesson can be catered to your level.

Throughout the entire lesson I was swinging (and sometimes missing), but with help from Lionel I was becoming more and more consistent. My anxieties about golf were subsiding and the lack of pressure actually made learning how to swing really fun! Needless to say, if I could walk off the range with a more consistent swing, then with the help of Amherst Country Club and the Ponemah Green Family Golf Center, you can easily get yourself warmed-up for the season!
