Welcome to the first Spring weekend in 2013! Despite the pre-season snow, the sun is fighting strong. In just a few days, I swear the sky is bluer, the air is warmer, and the birds are more abundant! If you're starting your spring-cleaning, check out this feature on money-saving gree-cleaning! This weekend marks the official Maple Sugar season in New Hampshire! Through many sugar houses have already opened their doors, this weekend offers many maple celebrations for the official season-start!

Take a guided tour at It's Maple Season at Nature's Sweet Secret Sugarhouse , Saturday and Sunday, in Goffstown, learn tapping techniques at Maple Sugar Madness! on Saturday, in Laconia, and enjoy maple syrup sundaes, hayrides and a race to gather sap at the Horse Drawn Sap Gathering Competition on Saturday, in Keene.

Join your friends at Stonewall Farm for the annual Sap Gathering Contest. This event has become a signature Stonewall Farm event. Come see teamsters race on our course as they collect "sap" as quickly as possible. The tradition of boiling sap into maple syrup has been a New England tradition for generations. There will be food for sale, maple syrup sundaes, hayrides, and lots more!

From tapping a tree to tasting delicious maple syrup, you will learn from hands-on participation in the complete Old Time sugaring process. You will build tree ID skills and learn the parts of a tree and their functions, use measuring tools to find an appropriate tree to tap, see and use historical and modern tree tapping tools, learn the history of maple sugaring including Native American legends, and discover the math and chemical/physical science in the boiling process.
