Sheiling Forest

Address: Old Street Road, Peterborough, NH 03458
Phone: (603) 271-3457

Sheiling is Scottish for shelter. The 45 acres were shelter to Elizabeth Yates McGreal as her home before she donated the forest to the state in 1980. McGreal was a Peterborough resident and ardent conservationist. The 2 miles of easy self-guided trails wind through forested land with streams, wildflowers and huge, glacier-deposited boulders. (It is estimated that the boulders are about 18,000 years old.) Pick up a picnic in Peterborough and enjoy this low-key park along with the locals. It's a great place for little kids to hike. Pets on leashes are welcome.
