White Lake State Park is known for the campground and bathing beach that attract locals and visitors alike. But there is also a little-used trail that circles the lake, inviting you to explore both a sandy shoreline and the wooded uplands of the stand of pitch pine, which has been declared a National Landmark because it is rare to find this habitat so far north. Under pitch pines' canopy, birches, scrub oak and wild blueberries flourish.
