You might be glad to know that you don't have to climb Mount Kearsarge on foot in order to get the view. Take the auto road part way up the northwest slope of Mount Kearsarge to an elevation of 1,820 feet. It ends at a delightful picnic area with views of both the Green Mountains in Vermont and the White Mountains in New Hampshire. For those who would like a little exercise after lunch, you can continue to the top of 2,937-foot Mount Kearsarge on the mile-long trail from the picnic area.
