The Dana Center Presents Mendelssohn Madness
A Bicentenary Concert featuring Manchester’s own internationally Recognized Concert Pianist George Sebastian Lopez
Manchester, NH: The Dana Center, regional performing arts center at Saint Anselm College, welcomes another year as the premier showcase venue for performing artists from an international roster by presenting Mendelssohn Madness, a bicentenary concert featuring internationally recognized concert pianist George Sebastian Lopez for one evening performance only on Friday, January 22 at 7pm. The concert celebrates the works of one of the world’s greatest composers, Felix Mendelssohn, performed by Mr. Lopez, who remains a favorite Manchester success story on the musical front. The evening program will feature Piano Trio in D minor, Op.49 and Piano trio in C minor, Op.66. He will be accompanied by Eva Gruesser on violin and Emmanuel Feldman on cello.
Mr. Lopez has been featured across the globe as recitalist, soloist with orchestra and collaborator. He received critical acclaim for his interpretation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and has performed the complete cycle of Beethoven Piano Concerts during his last two concert seasons. He was invited by the Holland Music Sessions, one of the top performing arenas for up and coming musicians in Europe, to go on world tour performing in Paris, London, Cologne, Carnegie Hall and in Los Angeles, where he was hailed by the L.A. Times for his “…musical perspective, continuity, and kaleidoscopic colors.” Closer to home, he has also performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue to a capacity crowd with the NH Musical Festival Orchestra.
Eva Gruesser (violin) currently holds the Roger Sessions chair of concertmaster of the American Composers Orchestra and regularly performs with the orchestra at Carnegie Hall. She has performed as soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster throughout North America, Europe and Australia, including the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra from 2002 – 2007.
Emmanuel Feldman (cello) has been hailed by Grammy award winning composer and conductor John Williams as “an outstanding cellist and truly dedicated artist.” With a repertoire ranging from Bach to Ligeti all the way to today’s cutting edge composers, Mr. Feldman has appeared throughout Europe and North America, including his being soloist with the Boston Pops, Boston Philharmonic, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, New England String Ensemble, as well as with world renowned pop and jazz artist Bobby McFerrin in music from McFerrin’s album “Hush”.
