Queen City Ballroom’s Teen Performance Team (Ballroom Dance Program)
Sunday, June 27, 2010
Ballroom dancing is a hobby that has always been an integral part of growing up in the European countries. Now, in the USA, programs such as "Dancing With the Stars" have helped our local youth to form an opinion about how much fun it might be to give it a try. The Queen City Ballroom in Manchester recognizes and supports that interest with weekly summer classes for teens ages 11 - 19, geared specifically toward performing their newly learned skills at two showcases in Manchester on September 18th and 19th.
Beginning on Sunday, July 11th , and continuing weekly until September 12th, interested teens may participate in the Queen City Ballroom Teen Performing Class. The cost is $4.50 per week, payable by the month in advance, with an additional investment in reasonably priced costuming. A commitment to regular attendance is required. New students may register in person on the first week of class, via email, or phone. Under the direction of Queen City Ballroom instructors, April Kosinski and Carol Michael, participants will learn an upbeat, choreographed cha cha routine set to a contemporary piece of music. No dance experience is necessary. No partner required.
According to Karen Shackleford, Owner of Queen City Ballroom, this program now in it’s seventh year, has provided a place for NH teens to relax, unwind, and make friendships while learning a new skill. “We are pleased to be able to offer a safe, fun, social outlet for our local teenagers. This program gives them a healthy break from the sedentary activities such as computer use and video games that are so much a part of their lives,” says Shackleford. “Over the years, I have seen what a positive impact ballroom dancing can have on the life of a young person. Everyone needs a way to connect to peers, get some light exercise, and to feel a sense of accomplishment in some area of their lives. Ballroom dancing can do that, and the transformation is heartwarming to watch.”
