Deerfield Fair advance tickets on sale now

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

New Hampshire’s fall fair season is upon us and “New England’s Oldest ‘Family Fair’®” is offering advance-sale, discounted admission tickets for a limited time. Tickets to the 134th Deerfield Fair are available for just eight dollars, a 20% discount, at (603) 463-7421, if purchased before September 28. (Mail order deadline is September 15.)

“The fair is a great family bargain,” says Deerfield Fair Association president Sheryl Bolduc. “Just one low-price ticket gets you into every show and exhibit on the fairgrounds and there are acres of free parking. Free admission for kids 12 and under, plus two dollars off advance tickets… the whole family can go.” Retired horse-puller and long-time Deerfield Fair spokesman “Junior” Gardner adds, “you can’t hardly afford to stay home!”

The Deerfield Fair runs September 30 through October 3 at the Deerfield Fairgrounds on Route 43 in Deerfield, New Hampshire. A living tribute to the state’s rural and farming heritage and a tradition for generations of families, the fair offers horse shows, cattle competitions, sheep herding and 4-H demonstrations, and swine and poultry judging. Last year’s giant pumpkin contest was such a success, the fair is adding super-sized squash to the competition, and the fiddle and banjo contests are returning for a third year. Fairgoers can cheer on their favorites in tractor and log-cutting contests or enjoy music, magic, puppets and more on the fair’s several stages and performance areas. Another highlight is the crowning of the 2011 Miss Deerfield Fair.

Daily pig scrambles for both children and adults are fun-filled, can’t-miss events, and a midway offers exciting amusement park rides for kids of all ages. Sunday evening, fairgoers can crash the party and join in the fun of the fifth-annual Demolition Derby. And those who wait all year just to sample the terrific and varied fair food will find everything from sausage subs to old-fashioned cotton candy to funnel cake. “The Deerfield Fair is fun and affordable,” adds Bolduc. “Consider what it costs to take a family to a theme park or the movies. But two adults with three kids age 12 or under can enjoy the Deerfield Fair for a total of only $20, including parking, which is free. And with the advance-sale discount now through September 28, that price drops to just $16. The Deerfield Fair offers old-time value that can’t be beat for a day of fun.”

Advance tickets are available in Deerfield at the fair office (34 Stage Road), Blue Bowl Consignment, Lovin’ Spoonful, Country Cuts by Clair, Deerfield Dentist, and Yannis Pizzeria; in Candia at the Candia General Store; in Raymond at Radio Grove Hardware; in Northwood at Aqua Specialties; in Chichester at Bob Cat of New Hampshire; in Manchester at Murroney’s Printing (Pine Island Plaza); and at James Rosencrantz & Sons, Inc., in Derry and Kensington.
