"Homeward Bound" Food & Wine Tasting Raises $17,000 for Homeless Children and Families

Nashua, NH - December 6, 2011 - More than a dozen local restaurants and wineries served up delicious samples to nearly 200 guests at the Radisson Hotel in Nashua on Thursday, December 1, all in the name of supporting Anne-Marie House, a nonprofit, transitional housing program for children and families experiencing homelessness. The event, called "Homeward Bound," raised more than $17,000 for the charity, all of which will go to help those in need.
"We are grateful and humbled by the tremendous outpouring of support for our program from our local community," said Laurie Skibba, Network Director of Anne-Marie House. "Without the generosity of the Radisson Hotel in Nashua, our emcee Ms. Carolyn Choate, our local restaurants and wineries, silent auction and raffle donors, guests, donors and volunteers, we would not be able to continue to provide a safe home and resources to our neighbors in need."
Guests shopped a giant silent auction of nearly 80 unique items, including vacation stays, sports tickets and memorabilia, jewelry, gift baskets, artwork and more. Carolyn Choate of TV 13 Nashua presided over the event as guest emcee and the Scooter Way Band provided live music for event goers. Near the end of the event, guests heard from a success story one of Anne-Marie House's graduate families and were then invited to "bid" on essential basic items that Anne-Marie House families need, including diapers and baby items and heating oil.
Since 2005, Anne-Marie House has served the needs of local children and families experiencing homelessness by providing safe and temporary housing, wholesome meals, transportation, continuing education and other support services such as parenting classes and financial literacy workshops. Nearly 90% of Anne-Marie House families achieve independent and sustainable housing and nearly 90 cents of every dollar donated to AMH directly supports resident families and children.
