NH Theatre Awards to Hold 10th Annual Ceremony

The NH Theatre Awards will hold its 10th Annual ceremony next week on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in The Palace Theater, Hanover Street in Manchester, NH.
Each year NH Theatre Awards recognizes achievements and exceptional talent in New Hampshire produced theatre through a unique adjudication process that culminates with an awards ceremony held in February.
In December, the finalists in categories of professional, community, and youth theatres were announced and can still be viewed at www.NHTheatreAwards.org. Companies listed in the professional categories are Hampstead Stage Company, Mt. Washington Valley Theatre Company, New London Barn Playhouse, Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater, Papermill Theater/NCCA, Peterborough Players, and Winnipesaukee Playhouse.
Among the community theatre finalists for Best Production are Actorsingers, Amherst PTA, Bedford Off-Broadway, Branch River Theatre, Community Players of Concord, Ghostlight Theater Co., M & D Productions, M & M Productions, Majestic Theatre, Milford Area Players, Nashua Theatre Guild, New Thalian Players, North Country Community Theatre, Stagecoach Productions, and Winni Players. Companies with finalists in other categories include Actors Circle Theatre, Colonel Towne Players, Manchester Community Theatre Players, and The Performer’s Playground.
This year is the first that NH Theatre Awards will recognize youth theatre in the categories of production and acting. The groups that were named finalists are Andy’s Summer Playhouse, Children’s Theatre Project of CCP, Kearsarge Arts Theatre (KAT Company), Majestic Academy of Dramatic Arts, MoCo Arts, Peacock Players and RB Productions.
Selections from nominated productions will be performed at the ceremony. Among those performing are Actorsingers, Community Players of Concord, M & M Productions, Manchester Community Theater Players, New Thalian Players, Peacock Players, and Stagecoach Productions,
Each year NH Theatre Awards presents 3 special awards for lifetime achievement, children’s theatre, and vision & tenacity. This year, three worthy individuals will be presented with these awards.
The Francis Grover Cleveland Award for Life Achievement will be given to Mary Selvoski of Bedford, NH who for many years operated Mary’s Closet. Mary’s Closet, which recently closed, was a popular location to obtain costumes for NH theater productions.
The Matty Award for Vision & Tenacity will be given to William Hallager of Lincoln, NH who is a prominent backer of Papermill Theater/NCCA in Lincoln.
The Children’s Theatre Award will go to Toby Tarnow of Riverbend Theatre Company of the Souhegan Valley.
