ChildLight Yoga offers classes for children with special needs and yoga-based training for their parents and therapists

In association with Wentworth Douglass Hospital CHAD program, ChildLight Yoga in Dover, NH, offers ALLKids Adaptive Yoga for Families (options for Grades K-2 or 3-6). Next session begins March 27th.

For those who raise or work with children with special needs, Shakta Khalsa, founder of Radiant Child Yoga Program and Allison Morgan, MA, OTR, and founder of Zensational Kids, will co-lead a weekend certification program, the Radiant Child: Yoga for Differently Abled Children Trainin,g on March 30-April 1. The course is available for CEUs for both OTs and PT.

In the United States, one in 110 children has been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and more than 9% of American children have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).* Many of these children are familiar with occupational and physical therapy, and those with ADHD often take prescription drugs.

Lisa Flynn, Owner/Director of ChildLight Yoga, believes that yoga is wonderful for everyone, but can be especially beneficial for children with special needs. “We are thrilled to offer regular classes and host this important training on working with Children with Special Intentions here on the Seacoast,” says Flynn. “It offers a great opportunity to learn leading edge yogic tools that can reach the hearts and minds of differently abled children”.

ALLKids Adaptive Yoga for Families classes are designed for children who have been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Sensory Processing Dysfunction, learning disabilities, or emotional challenges, along with a parent or caregiver. Shakta Kaur Khalsa, yoga teacher and founder of Radiant Child Yoga Program, and Allison Morgan, Occupational Therapist, with their combined 50 years of experience, will teach occupational and physical therapists, parents and teachers how to incorporate yoga postures and breath work into the daily activities and therapies of children who have ADHD, autism, Sensory Processing Disorders, and other sensory differences.

The training will be March 30-April 1, 2012. The cost is $405 until March 8st and $450 after March 8th. Course is eligible for CEU’s for OT’s & some PT’s. Kundalini Yoga teachers are also eligible for CEU’s via IKYTA.
