- Phone: (603) 466-2725
Tuckerman Ravine is only for very experienced skiers, preferably those with lots of mountaineering experience. Tuckerman Ravine, on the east side of Mount Washington, is 600 feet of vertical relief cut by glaciers. There are no lifts, and the hike in is at least 2.5 miles from the AMC camp at Pinkham Notch. And that hike just gets you to the ice steps. Then you hike up until you're ready to ski down. Once you start down, there's no stopping until the bottom. Be prepared for lots of falling objects including people, ice and rock.
Tuckerman Ravine is famous for spring skiing. Snow blows into the bowl all year, and by spring the snowpack has settled. Warm spring weather bonds the snow layers, and you'll find snow here into the summer. Be sure and check avalanche conditions and talk with skiers familiar with the area before you attempt it.
