From Israel With Love

RecanatiLocated in Israel’s Hefer Valley within Northern Galilee, Recanati winery lovingly obtains its grapes from some of the area’s finest high-altitude vineyards, which enjoy a climate similar to that of California’s Napa Valley. Warm days and contrastingly cool nights, together with ideal chalky-gravelly soil conditions and limited rainfall, create an ideal environment in which to nurture these classic varietals. Cabernet Sauvignon: This medium-bodied wine projects a delicate, smoky aroma with subtle hints of spice, enhanced by plum and blackberry flavors. Merlot: Robust aromas of fruit and vanilla against a subtle background of cloves. Medium-bodied, with flavors of ripe red berry fruit and pomegranates. Sauvignon Blanc: Aromas of tropical fruit and melon combine with notes of fresh hay and bell pepper in this lively Sauvignon Blanc. Full-bodied and elegant, with flavors of ripe guava and banana balanced by a firm acidity.

Recanati wines are kosher for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur and all year round.

Enjoying Wine

No matter what your price range for buying wine, we all have one thing in common: to find the best tasting wine for the lowest price.

Look for wines from Spain, which can offer incredible quality for often amazingly low prices. Also, try wines from Portugal, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. Another favorite for exceptional, reasonably priced selections are wines from the Languedoc in the southern part of France. If you are buying imported wine, get advice on the reputation of the importer. This can be the easiest way to determine the quality of the wine.

One final thought — if you buy wines from the most famous wine regions in the world, you may indeed get great wine, but it will rarely be inexpensive. So look to emerging wine areas, ones with a budding notoriety. That’s where the bargains are!
